2017 CrossFit Open
This week kicks off the beginning of the 2017 CrossFit Games season with the first workout of the CrossFit Open. The CrossFit Open is a 5 week worldwide competition with 1 workout posted each week for athletes to compete in. The workouts announced every Thursday evening and scoring closes on the following Monday.
Friday Night Lights
Here at CrossFit Banshee all of the classes on Friday will be dedicated to the CrossFit Open workouts but the evening classes on Friday will look like a competition. We call it Friday Night Lights. From 4:30 PM until everyone has done he workout, we will run workout heats to get our athletes through the workouts. Of course this isn’t exactly like going to a competition, we are still your CrossFit Family and want you to feel comfortable and ready. EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to come enjoy these workouts. However for those people signed up for the CrossFit Open, we will have judges available to score the workout and a computer available to post your scores immediately.
Be Part of the Energy
The more people we have at Friday Night Lights the better. People feed off of the energy in the gym during these workouts. Encouragement from everyone helps to really set this apart from other workouts and the heightened competition feel usually helps people get the most out of their effort.
Everyone Can Do It
If you’re interested in trying, there is an option for everyone in the CrossFit Open and you don’t have to be the most competitive person to get something out of this. Each week with the workout announcement a scaled option is also announced. This allows almost everyone the chance to “compete” within their own ability.
If you’re interested in giving it a try, head over to games.crossfit.com to get registered. You do not have to register to participate in Friday Night Lights, but the added push can be beneficial.
After Party (aka Stink and Drink)
After the workout we’ll head to a nearby establishment to celebrate our victories and enjoy the company of the amazing people that are part of our community. This is completely optional, but a great way to get to know the people you sweat (or cry?!?) with. We’ll post each weeks destination at the gym and on our Facebook page so even if you’re not able to participate in Friday Night Lights, you can still celebrate with your CrossFit Family.
